The best electric toothbrushes can provide much better results than regular ones. They not only increase comfort when brushing your teeth, but also improve technique. However, there are many models on the market, and it is difficult to choose the optimal one - here is the rating of electric toothbrushes 2022 from TehnObzor.
I hope everyone will find something for themselves in this collection.
Which electric toothbrush is best to buy?
Electric brushes come in three types: mechanical, sonic, and ultrasonic. Here it is best to listen to the opinion of the dentist, since each of these devices has its own contraindications and requires individual selection.
Ultrasound models should not be used by people with pins and fillings.
Brushes can be powered by batteries or rechargeable batteries. The latter are more powerful and clean better, and do not require constant replacement of power sources. When traveling, it is more convenient to use battery-powered devices, since removable batteries are easier to replace than waiting for the battery to charge.
Electric brushes clean your teeth more intensely than regular ones, so the usual medium-hard bristles may not be suitable. To begin with, it is better to buy a soft nozzle, and if necessary, replace it with a harder one.
The bristles usually consist of artificial bristles, but someone may be allergic to them - in this case, you should choose natural bristles.
Replaceable nozzles can be divided into:
- whitening,
- for sensitive teeth,
- universal.
Often they have to be purchased separately. There are models with several identical attachments - these are suitable for the whole family. In this case, the cleaning heads are selected according to the size of the teeth. The ideal brush is one in which the working part of the nozzle covers 2 teeth at the same time and no more. A small head will increase the duration of the procedure, and a too large head will not be able to reach the farthest teeth.
Preference should be given to brushes with several modes, thanks to which you can change the speed and quality of cleaning, massage the gums and polish the enamel. Also devices with additional interesting functions.
The most useful of them:
- Charging indicator – helps to monitor the condition of the battery;
- The changing color of the bristles on the nozzle will tell you when it needs to be replaced;
- Display – can display cleaning time, selected mode, etc.;
- Timer – works as a time limiter for the procedure so as not to harm the teeth;
- Pressure sensor - will warn you if you are pressing too hard on the brush, thereby protecting the enamel from damage.
Proper brushing of teeth
So you bought an electric toothbrush. But don’t rush to use your new device right away. We suggest that you familiarize yourself with the basic cleaning rules that will help facilitate the process of removing plaque and avoid possible unpleasant sensations.
- Only turn on the device when it is in your mouth - otherwise, after brushing your teeth, you will have to clean the bathroom. The quick oscillating movements of the bristles spray the paste throughout the room.
- Do not immediately set the power to high - allow your teeth to get used to the new method of cleansing for two weeks.
- Do not press too hard on the electric toothbrush; to avoid gum damage and bleeding, it is important to apply only light pressure. Good models have a pressure sensor that lights up red when the pressure increases.
- Avoid additional manipulation: the bristles of electric brushes do not change the direction of movement, which helps preserve the enamel and avoid erosion. Just install the head on the tooth - and the smart gadget will do everything for you.
- Do not shorten the procedure time. Experts recommend brushing your teeth for two to three minutes, brushing one tooth should take 3-4 seconds.
- Rinse the device after use. Change heads regularly. Replacement attachments have a limited service life (9-12 weeks). Reliable manufacturers supply products with wear indicators.
We hope that the participants in the rating of the best electric toothbrushes will help make the cleaning process easier and reduce trips to the dentist to a minimum. Which model did you focus on, what are the pros and cons of your new assistant? Share your opinion with us in the comments.

Conclusions -
As a dentist, I would not recommend using ultrasonic toothbrushes to my patients. And even if the choice of the Megasonex m8 toothbrush seems preferable to me (in comparison with the Emmi-Dent brushes), then I think that both of these brushes are absolutely not up to the quality of teeth cleaning - modern sonic brushes, and especially before Oral-B electric brushes. The latter are, in fact, a dentist’s instrument in miniature. Read more about them in the article linked below.

The Best Ultrasonic Electric Toothbrushes
These models generate ultrasound at a frequency of 1 MHz. At the same time, the cleaning head produces up to 200 million pulses, which, if used improperly, can have a detrimental effect on fillings.
Such models do not produce sweeping movements, but ultrasound is capable of destroying not only plaque, but also tartar, as well as pigmentation. Alas, ultrasonic models are contraindicated for gum inflammation.

Flaws:

Nuances of choice
- Thorough cleaning of the tooth surface is possible with a sufficient length of the working part - 2-2.5 cm. This size is designed to capture several teeth at the same time.
- The head of the brush should be rounded so as not to injure the mucous membrane. The unevenness of the outer part provides additional hygiene.
- The movable junction between the head and the handle puts moderate pressure on the crowns and gums.
- The handle with rubber inserts makes the brush more comfortable to use and prevents it from slipping in your hands.
Need to consider:
- Ultrasonic and ionic models greatly facilitate care, but are less accessible due to their high cost.
- Electric ones effectively cope with the function of cleaning teeth. Do not use for gum diseases or unhealed sutures.
- Manual ones are cheaper than others, but are effective only if the correct movements are performed.

Contraindications
The active effect of an ultrasonic brush on the tissues of the oral cavity can cause serious changes in them, as a result of which there are a number of contraindications to the use of the device:
- The presence of fillings, veneers or crowns. High frequencies have a destructive effect on the restoration material from which artificial crowns and fillings are made. Therefore, over time, they become destroyed or fall out.
- The presence of demineralized areas of enamel. When using an ultrasonic brush, the enamel defect will increase significantly.
- Periodontitis in the acute stage. Ultrasound waves are capable of destroying purulent sacs formed as a result of the disease, which leads to its development into a chronic condition.
- Inflammatory process in the gums. Using an ultrasound device will only worsen the situation: increased bleeding, swelling and the development of gingivitis are likely.
- Presence of diabetes mellitus. Any trauma to soft tissues during the course of this disease leads to a complex and lengthy process of their recovery.
- Pregnancy. During the period of bearing a child, it is advisable to refrain from sanitation of the oral cavity and the use of ultrasonic toothbrushes, since high frequencies can have a negative impact on the development of the fetus.
- Presence of a pacemaker.
In the presence of these situations, it is advisable to refuse to use an ultrasonic toothbrush. In addition, if you want to purchase it, you must first consult with your dentist in order to avoid possible negative consequences.
